Career

1990 Service technician at a lighting rental house, later head of department.

1997 Lighting technician — around 25 feature films, music videos and commercials.

2000s First major gaffer job after a four-month shoot in the Dominican Republic (Klinik unter Palmen).

Since Gaffer and lighting designer internationally — Fox, Amazon Prime, Warner Bros.

About

Christian Gruber has worked in film since 1990. As gaffer he is responsible for lighting design and execution on set — from planning the lighting plot, through rigging, to fine-tuning during the shoot, in close collaboration with director and cinematographer.

The work spans large-scale builds for international film and television to reduced, naturalistic setups for commercials and music videos — light that serves the image, never itself.

Productions have taken him around the world — to New York, Miami, Chile, Argentina, Venezuela, Iceland, Greenland, Barcelona, Sicily, Budapest, Copenhagen, Hamburg and the Dominican Republic, among others.
